Honoring Those Who Serve California

Celebrating the work, lives, and legacy of California’s public servants since 1928.

For nearly a century, we have stood beside the people who keep California running. We are the Employees Club of California — and we exist for one reason: to celebrate, protect, and uplift the public servants who give their lives to this state.

About Us

Who We Are

The Employees Club of California is the state’s leading voluntary benefits organization exclusively serving active and retired municipal, county, and state government employees across California. We are not just a benefits provider. We are a community built on gratitude — a place where the dedication of public employees is recognized, honored, and rewarded every single day.

Founded in 1928 as the Los Angeles City Employees Association, our organization was born from a simple and powerful belief: the men and women who serve their communities deserve more than a paycheck. They deserve recognition, belonging, and a partner who genuinely cares about their wellbeing. That belief has guided everything we have built over the past century.

Today, the Employees Club of California serves thousands of Club Members throughout California, offering exclusive discounts, supplemental insurance, emergency financial assistance, and a rich portfolio of member benefits that go far beyond what any worksite can provide. From theme park tickets to retirement planning support, from dining savings to personalized counseling, we are here to make life a little brighter for the people who make California a little better every day.

Our History

Our Story

  1. 1928

A group of Los Angeles city employees came together with a shared vision: to build something that would make their lives and the lives of their colleagues more enjoyable and rewarding. That original spirit of community and care has never wavered.

  2. 2001

Over nearly 100 years, we have grown from a local employees association into a statewide organization that reaches city, county, and state government employees across California. In 2001, the Los Angeles City Employees Association formally established the Employees Club of California as the member-facing benefits organization it is today, bringing an even greater depth of programming and service to the public employees we are privileged to serve.

  3. Today

Guided by President and CEO Robert Larios — only the third chief executive in the organization’s history — the Club continues to grow, innovate, and deepen its commitment to the public servants of California.

Why It Matters

The People Behind the Public Service

Public employees are often unsung heroes. They staff emergency lines at 2 a.m. They keep the water running. They maintain the roads. They show up — day after day — for the communities that depend on them. At the Employees Club of California, we believe their sacrifice deserves to be seen, honored, and rewarded.

No other organization in the nation has matched the depth and longevity of our commitment to celebrating the work and lives of public employees. We are proud of that distinction, and we wear it as a responsibility — to keep showing up for the people who show up for all of us.

Mission Statement

Our Mission

Our mission is to honor, celebrate, and uplift the men and women of California’s public service — enriching their lives, recognizing their sacrifice, and strengthening the communities they serve, as we have done since 1928.

In Short

Celebrating California’s public servants — honoring their work, enriching their lives, since 1928.

Vision Statement

Our Vision

We envision a California where every public servant feels seen, valued, and celebrated — where the people who carry our communities on their shoulders know, without question, that their work matters and their lives are enriched by an organization that has stood beside them for nearly a century.

In Short

A California where every public servant knows their work is seen, their sacrifice is honored, and their life is better because we are in it.

Core Values

Our Core Values

The beliefs that guide everything we do — for our members, our team, and our communities.

These five values are not just words on a wall. They are the principles that shape how we serve our members, how we show up for our team, and how we carry ourselves as an organization that has earned the trust of California’s public employees for nearly 100 years.

  • Excellence

We are committed to being the best — not because we have to be, but because the people we serve deserve nothing less. Excellence means holding ourselves to the highest standards in every benefit we offer, every interaction we have, and every program we build. It means delivering service that is not merely good, but genuinely remarkable.

  • Integrity

We act with honesty, transparency, and accountability in everything we do. Our members trust us with their wellbeing, and we take that trust seriously. Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, keeping every promise we make, and holding ourselves responsible to the people who depend on us.

  • Service

Service is at the heart of who we are. We exist to serve — to make the lives of California’s public employees richer, easier, and more rewarding. Service means going beyond the expected, showing up with care and dedication, and never losing sight of why we are here: for the people who give so much to their communities.

  • Innovation

We believe the best version of the Employees Club of California is always still ahead of us. Innovation means we are never content to stand still — we are always listening, learning, and looking for better ways to support our members. It means embracing creativity, welcoming change, and having the courage to build something new when something better is possible.

  • Compassion

We see people, not just members. Compassion means recognizing that behind every membership card is a person with a family, a story, and a life that matters. It means listening with empathy, responding with kindness, and genuinely caring about the wellbeing of everyone in our community — our members, our colleagues, and the broader public we are privileged to serve.

Our Community

A Note on Community and Respect

At the Club, we value every member of our community — our Members, our partners, our vendors, and our team. We are committed to maintaining a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment in every interaction and at every touchpoint. We believe that how we treat one another is a direct reflection of the values we hold as an organization.

To protect that environment, our partners and vendors reserve the right to refuse service to members who engage in hostile or unprofessional behavior, including abusive language, threats, or disregard for vendor policies. Such conduct may result in suspension or loss of Club services. We are focused on building a community where everyone treats each other with respect, kindness, and understanding.
